A behind-the-scenes look at a recent editorial photoshoot with an Anchorage branding photographer

Not long ago, I had the opportunity to photograph a 20-year anniversary celebration for a local business — a project I was hired for by a regional magazine (you’ll see the final images in their next issue!). While I can’t name the company just yet, I can share why this shoot was so special — and why moments like this deserve to be photographed by someone who gets it.

Fast-Paced, Light-Filled, and Full of Laughs

This shoot was all about teamwork and storytelling. I was brought in to document a series of group portraits: leadership, departments, and a full-team photo to wrap it up. I had just one hour before everyone had to return to their deliveries, inboxes, and meetings — so it was lights up, game on. Luckily, the crew was amazing. Kind, quick to laugh, and totally open to my tried-and-true method: goofy warm-up shots to shake off nerves, followed by the more “traditional” poses. It’s incredible how much easier it is to capture real expressions when people are relaxed (and maybe slightly roasted by their coworkers mid-shoot).
